First EU AI Act enforcement fine issued

Finland activated enforcement January 2026. With prohibited practices enforceable since February 2025, a first enforcement action is plausible before the high-risk deadline.

RESOLUTION CRITERIA

True if any EU member state authority or the European AI Office issues a formal fine or penalty under the AI Act against any company. Warnings or voluntary corrective actions do not qualify.

▲ FOR

Finland has had enforcement powers since January 1 2026

Prohibited practices enforceable since February 2025

Penalty structure incentivizes regulators — up to 7% of global turnover

▼ AGAINST

Regulators typically issue warnings before fines

Most member states still setting up enforcement infrastructure

Political pressure to support AI innovation may restrain early enforcement
